Is Vitiligo hereditary? Or genetic?

My moms boss has vitiligo and he says it is hereditary, but what he means is that his kids have a higher chance of getting it, as opposed to some kid that does not have a parent with this condition, this does not mean you have a super high chance though, just more than an average person.
