Will my Siberian cat try to attack a bird?

I am adopting a 1 year and 1 month old Siberian cat named Liliya. The only problem is that I hear they are very playful and, probably like most cats, want to eat birds. My roommate has a parakeet in a cage about 5 feet above the ground, but with enough momentum I'm afraid Liliya will get ahold of the bird. I know this is probably an obvious "your cat will eat the bird" but I was wondering if anyone knew the likelihood for Siberians and their curiousity, and anyone that this may have happened to?
